Research Projects implemented in the recent years

  1. Host-Country Co-Investigator of BBSRC funded project: During May 2019 - August 2020, I contributed to the BBSRC funded project ‘Risk-based pedigree-analysis for regulation of prophylactic aquaculture health products (PHPs) and improved smallholder health management in Bangladesh (PEDIGREE)’. This project has been led by the University of Stirling, UK and collaborated by WorldFish Bangladesh. PEDIGREE disseminates this tool and increase awareness of issues around risk & efficacy of PHPs in order to: i) support improved voluntary (industry) and statutory regulation of safety and quality assurance; and ii) deliver more effective and safe small-holder aquaculture health management in Bangladesh https://www.pedigree.stir.ac.uk.
  2. Host-Country Principal-Investigator of USAID funded project: During April 2020 – September 2022, I worked as the Host-Country Principal Investigator of a USAID funded project under the mission of Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Fish. I led the project ‘Harnessing Machine Learning to Estimate Aquaculture Production and Value Chain Performance in Bangladesh’. Along with collaborative research partners form the Michigan State University, USA, WorldFish and CIAT, we aimed to use machine learning to automate extraction of data on aquaculture ponds from satellite images and integrate with georeferenced survey data to accurately estimate fish production, economic value, and employment (disaggregated by gender and age) to improve the accuracy of official statistics and enhance capacity to effectively target investments and regulation. https://www.fishinnovationlab.msstate.edu/newsroom/2021/02/emerging-technologies-improve-aquaculture-data-systems-bangladesh

On-going research projects

  1. Host-Country Co-Investigator of a DANIDA funded project: Working as one of the Host-Country Co-Investigators and Work Package Coordinator of a DANIDA funded project ‘AQUAFOOD - Climate-resilient aquatic food systems for healthy lives of young women and girls in Bangladesh’, with the colleagues of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, which has been started from April 2023. https://nexs.ku.dk/english/research/nutrition-health/sustainable-nutrition-and-health/aquafood/
